Reading/Weekend Update 11/16/20

Welp, I went with this juggernaut:

The Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive, Book 1) by [Brandon Sanderson]

I’m glad I did. I’m about 130 pages in and enjoying it very much. Enjoying the slow start, the world building, these characters. What an opening first few chapters! So many questions unanswered- perfect.

We watched the Mandalorian and enjoyed it. Being fans of Rebels and Clone Wars, let’s just say it was nice to see the … uh… tie ins. Can’t wait for the next episode.

We also have been watching The Right Stuff on Disney Plus. We got hooked on this show a couple of weeks ago. I like the character study as much as the history. From a religious standpoint, my husband and I got into a nice discussion about self righteousness and how they are handling the John Glenn character. I do like how they don’t shy away from showing how self righteousness is such an ugly trait and something to guard against. Of course you don’t water down the word of God, but you don’t slap people in the face with it and judge them. Not your job. Lessons are everywhere.

We went for a nice long drive Sunday and just enjoyed seeing the changing of the leaves. We were surprised to see some places hadn’t completely lost their leaves yet. My husband is a car fan, and we saw a Ferrari and a McLaren out and about so he was happy.

This is my last full week at work, which as I have mentioned, is unbelievably demanding. BUT it’s helping me work on patience and compassion. And it’s also helping me apply 1 Corinthians 10:31: “Therefore, whether you are eating or drinking or doing anything else, do all things for God’s glory…”

Happy reading and I will check in at the end of the week!
